Photo series taken while on a research vessel during an artist residency at Shoals Marine Laboratory. All local guidelines and regulations followed. Those of us on the boat followed the floating body of this Humpback whale for several hours, during which the corpse was visited by two live Minke whales. They briefly surfaced to take a look before continuing on. At one point, an egret landed on the great upturned belly, paused to flap its wings, and few off. Black guillemots flitted about like flies.
